Actinic Keratosis refers to a small, rough red spot of 2-6 millimeters with a whitish or yellowish scale on top, on the skin due to sun exposure, including wrinkles, shallowness and superficial blood vessels. Often termed as Solar Keratosis or AK, it also brings soreness or painfulness if fingers or a cloth is rubbed against it. Some of the known forms of AK include coetaneous horns, wherein skin sticks out in a thick, hornlike shape, and actinic cheilitis, referring to the scaling and unevenness of the lower lip and blurring of the area adjoining the lip and its surrounding skin.
