Agranulocytes
Agranulocytes are a specific category of WBC or White Blood Cells, which are represented by the non-existence of granules within their cytoplasm. These are of two forms, viz. Lymphocytes and Monocytes. The blood comprises three kinds of lymphocytes – B Cells, T Cells and NK (Natural Killer) Cells, whereby B Cells create antibodies for destructing pathogens; CD4+ T Cells harmonize the body’s immune response; and CD8+ and NK Cells attack virus-infected cells of the body. Monocytes serve the vacuum cleaner functionality along with Neutrophils, but are longer lived. Granulocytes such as Neutrophils, Basophils and Eosinophils are those WBC that are not Agranulocytes.
