Alopecia Areata

Alopecia Areata (or simply, AA) can be described as a medical condition wherein hair is lost from a few parts or the entire body, primarily affecting the scalp. This hair loss tends to be rapid in nature, resulting into bald spots on the scalp, also known as spot baldness. When the condition is spread across the entire scalp, it is called Alopecia Totalis, and in case of the entire epidermis, it is called Alopecia Universalis. AA is said to be mainly caused due to an abnormal functioning of the immune system that attacks some body tissues, affecting the hair follicles and hence the hair formation.
