Amyloidosis

 

Amyloidosis refers to a group of diseases wherein Amyloid (a protein) gets deposited in the body organs and tissues. It may accumulate in a localized single organ or across the body systemically. There are three kinds of Amyloidosis, viz. Primary Amyloidosis (AL), Familial (Hereditary) Amyloidosis and Secondary Amyloidosis. The symptoms of AL includes heart diseases, irregular heartbeat, stroke, kidney failure, gastrointestinal disorders, enlarged liver, malfunction of the spleen, adrenal and other endrocrine glands, lung problems, joint inflammation and bleeding problems. Familial Amyloidosis would reflect in nervous system disorders, weight loss, diarrhea, heart problems and kidney disease. Secondary Amyloidosis reflects in enlarged liver and spleen, heart problems and kidney disease.
