Behcet’s Disease
Behcet’s disease earlier known as Behcet’s syndrome is a chronic condition that results from malfunctioning in the body’s immune system. The immune system provides protection to the body by producing controlled inflammation. However, in this disease the system becomes over-active and starts producing unpredictable amount of exaggerated inflammation. This inflammation damages the blood vessels, especially the small ones. The commonly observed symptoms are the occurrence of inflammation patches on areas where there is supply of blood. Behcte’s disease is not curable yet, however it can still be treated. The immune system can be suppressed to produce the right amount of inflammation and reduce the symptoms.
