Capitate Bone
The capitate bone is the biggest bone of the carpal bones in the human hands and occupies the central portion of the wrist. It shows a head or rounded portion on top, which is received in concavity formed by the lunate and scaphoid bones, the neck or a constricted portion and the body below this. This type of bone is found in many different mammals and is homological to the “third distal carpal” of amphibians and reptiles.
The word capitates derives from the Latin word “capitatus which means having a head and from “capit” which means “head”
