Cardiovascular Disease
Cardiovascular disease or CVD is a disease which affects the heart or the blood vessels. The disease can result in heart failure, heart attack, stroke, cardiac rhythm problems and sudden death which results in decreased quality of life and expectancy. Cardiovascular diseases are caused by many reasons such as infection, structural defects, environmental problems, genetics and inflammation. Cardiovascular disease can be prevented by adopting a healthy lifestyle and avoiding fattening foods, smoking and stress.The risk factors for cardiovascular disease that can be treated or prevented are excess weight, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, physical inactivity, diabetes, smoking, illegal drug use, excessive alcohol consumption and stress. The risks which are unpreventable are hereditary disorders, increasing age, previous heart attacks, race and gender.
