Circumduction
It is one of the four basic movements allowed by the various joints of the skeleton. It is the combination of abduction, extension, and flexion. Let’s have an example- the motion of a bone which head articulates with a cavity, such as the femur with the acetebulum. The motion of the bone circumscribes a cone, the apex of which is the cavity and the base of which is described by the distal end of the bone. Sometimes, it is considered to be the circular movement of alimb or the eye. Circumduction can be best performed at ball and socket joints, such as the hip and shoulder. It may also be performed by other parts of the body, such as, fingers, hands, feet, and head. A sporting example of Circumduction occurs when performing a serve in tennis or bowling a cricket ball.
