Coloboma

Coloboma is referred to as a hole in either of the eye structures, like the iris, retina, optic disc or choroid, emergent since birth (congenital) due to the choroid fissure (gap) between two structures of the eye in the early growth of the uterus and that fails to close up completely before the child birth. It may occur in one or both eyes, as a round, black hole inside or adjacent to the iris (colored part of the eye) at the edge of the pupil, giving the latter an irregular shape. Besides hereditarily, coloboma can also occur due to an eye surgery or a trauma to the eye.
