Common Bile Duct

Common bile duct (or ductus choledochus) can be described as an anatomic structure in the shape of a tube in the human gastrointestinal tract, formed with the combination of the common hepatic duct and the cystic duct, which is gradually conjoined by the pancreatic duct for forming the ampulla of Vater. The common bile duct can give rise to several problems. If a gallstone clogs it, it can lead to choledocholithiasis that makes the duct further prone to the ascending cholangitis infection. Cystic dilations of 4cms, choledochoceles of 3-8cms and biliary atresia are rarest deformities of the common bile duct.
