Common Carotid Artery

Common carotid artery refers to the artery or vessel which is responsible for supplying oxygenated and nutrient-filled blood to the head, brain and neck; such that it segregates the neck to form the internal and external carotid arteries near the top of the thyroaid. The branch of the right common carotid artery comes from the brachiocephalic artery extending up to the right side of the neck, whereas, the branch of the left common carotid artery comes from the aorta extending up to the left side of the neck. The internal one supplies oxygenated blood to the brain and eyes, while the external one supplies it to the throat, neck glands, face, mouth, tongue, ear, scalp and dura mater of the meninges.
