Coronal Suture

Coronal suture refers to a thick, fibrous connective tissue joint which is separated from the frontal and parietal bones of the skull. At the birth of the baby, the bones of the skull do not come into contact. If, however, few bones of the skull grow at a rapid pace, premature closure of the sutures is apparent resulting into skull deformities. There could be two kinds of deformities that can result from the premature closure of the coronal suture, namely, Oxycephaly (a long-sized skull) and Plagiocephaly (a twisted and asymmetrical skull). The plural form of coronal suture is called coronal sutures.
