Dental Fluorosis

Dental fluorosis is a condition of the teeth where hypomineralization of the tooth enamel has taken place due to excess of fluoride while the teeth were developing. Mineralization of the permanent teeth except third molars takes place during the time of birth till the age of six. After that time, the teeth are mineralized so much that they are not affected by fluorosis. It is not even possible to diminish existing fluorosis by reducing the consumption of fluoride. The level of fluorosis vary from barely visible white striations or flecks affecting small area of enamel to complete pitting of the whole enamel surface with black or dark brown staining.
