Ectropion

 

Ectropion is a condition where the eyelid turns out such that the inner surface of the eye is exposed. Usually, the lower eyelid is more prone to this disorder. Ectropion is usually caused by the weakening of the eyelid’s connective tissues which is responsible for the eyelid to turn out. Some other causes are facial palsy, birth defect or scarred tissues due to burns. The commonly observed symptoms of Ectropion are:

  • Turning out of the eyelid
  • Redness of the white portion of the eye and the eyelid
  • Excessive tearing from the eyes
  • Dryness and pain in the eye
  • Keratitis
  • Conjunctivitis (Long term)
