Epidermal Cyst

 

Epidermal cyst is a closed sac that lies beneath the skin with an oily substance. The epidermal cysts usually occur due from the swollen hair follicles. A cyst can also occur from a skin trauma. A sac of cells form under the skin in which keratin, a kind of protein is secreted into it.

Epidermal cysts are usually seen on the face, neck, shoulder and trunk. They usually grow slowly and painlessly and form into movable lumps under the skin. Later, the cysts become inflamed and tender. The usually observed symptoms of epidermal cysts are:

  • Redness of the skin
  • Affected skin area becomes warm
  • Sore or tender skin
