Esophageal Cancer
Esophageal cancer is referred to as a malignant or cancerous tumor of the esophagus; the latter being the muscular tube responsible for moving food from the mouth to the stomach. It mostly occurs in men who have crossed the age of 50. Squamous cell carcinoma and Adenocarcinoma are two major types of esophageal cancer that are completely distinguishable from each other under the microscope, where the former is associated with smoking and alcoholism. On the other hand, Adenocarcinoma can be mainly caused by Barrett’s esophagus, a complicated Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), obesity and smoking habits. Surgery is the most recommended treatment of esophageal cancer.
