Favus

Favus or Tinea Favosa, refers to a chronic inflammatory dermatophytic infection or disease, which is generally caused on account of Trichophyton schoenleinii, and rarely owing to Trichophyton violaceum, Microsporum gypseum or Trichophyton mentagrophytes var quinckeanum. It is the scalp hair which is usually affected by favus, apart from glabrous skin and nails. Favus appears as circular and yellowish crusts, in the shape of a cup, grouped in patches, resembling a honeycomb, with each of a split pea size at the center of the scalp. Trichophyton quinckeanum or T mentagrophytes var quinkeanum is considered the causative agent of mouse favus. Favus is widely recognized as a disease of demographic poverty which can be treated readily by contemporary medicines.
