Frenulum

Frenulum or tongue tie is a condition where the tongue’s bottom is attached to the floor of the mouth by a string of tissue known as the lingual frenulum. The attachment of the lingual frenulum restricts the free movement of the tongue’s tip. The exact cause for this condition is still now known. Genetic problems may be involved with the cause of the frenulum. An infant or a newborn may show the same symptom of tongue tie. Other problems involved are

  • Acting fussy or irritating even after feeding
  • Weight loss or weight gain
  • Difficulty in maintaining suction. The infant may get tired within a couple of minutes or fall asleep before having enough food.
