Hemoglobin
Hemoglobin is a protein present in red blood cells that are responsible for carrying oxygen and returning carbon dioxide from the tissue to the lungs. A blood test will determine the amount of hemoglobin present in a person’s blood.Hemoglobin comprises of four protein molecules also known as globulin chains that are attached to each other. Each globulin chain has heme module, an important central structure. Iron is embedded in the heme modules which are responsible for transporting oxygen and carbon dioxide. . The presence of iron in the blood is responsible for giving its red color. Hemoglobin is also responsible for maintaining the shape of blood cells. Abnormal shape can disrupt the functions and flow through blood vessels.
