Hyperparathyroidism

Hyperparathyroidism refers to an overproduction of parathyroid hormone (PTH) through the parathyroid glands. These glands are located in the neck, near the back of the thyroid gland that produces parathyroid hormone and is responsible for controlling the levels of calcium, phosphorus and vitamin D in the blood and bone. Common symptoms of hyperparathyroidism include back pain, bone pain, blurred vision, reduced height, fatigue, itchy skin, long bone fracture, increased urination, increased thirst, joint pain, depression, nausea, loss of appetite, upper abdominal pain, and personality changes. In case of severe condition, surgery is required to remove the parathyroid gland. Mild condition can be treated through regular checkups only.
