Hypopigmentation

Hypopigmentation indicates the loss of skin color, caused due to depletion of melanin or melanocyte, or a reduction in the amino acid tyrosine, used by melanocytes to produce melanin. It is often brought on through laser treatments, but can be treated through other lasers or light sources. A patchy skin color is referred to as an unbalanced skin coloring. A mottled skin denotes changes in blood vessels of the skin, leading to a patchy appearance. Such patchy skin discoloration is caused by melanin changes, growth of foreign organisms on the skin and changes in the blood vessel. Where increased pigment release is known as hyperpigmentation, and reduced pigment release is known as hypopigmentation.
