Hypopyon
Sometimes in the anterior chamber of the eye, we may find the presence of whitish (or gray) dead cells or pus or pus-like fluid. These are the conditions of ‘Hypopyon’.The fluid is generally found in between the cornea and the iris, and generally appears in severe cases of anterior uveitis. Because of the fluid the cornea appears a bit cloudy, like a color change in it.Some of the other causes of hypopyon may be conjunctivitis, exophthalmoses, Stevens Johnson syndrome, bacterial or viral infection in the eye, vitamin ‘A’ deficiency or syphilis. In such cases immediate ophthalmologic consultation should be obtained.
