Intraepidermal Carcinoma

The condition is considered as a neoplasm of squamous epidermal cells that does not proliferate into the basal area. The carcinoma is confined within the epidermis. It often occurs in many place/parts of the body simultaneously. The lesions enlarge slowly and are resistant to chemotherapy and radiation. Many forms of the disease may be ‘Bowen’s disease (BD)’ or squamous cell carcinoma(not confined within the epidermis).Possible causes of the disease are induction of HPV, solar damage, immuno-suppression, chronic skin injury and dermatoses. Treatments of the disease include cryotherapy( freezing), photodynamic therapy(PDT), local chemotherapy and use of imiquimod.
