IPPB

 

Intermittent Positive Pressure Breathing also known as IPPB is a treatment were increased breathing pressures are being delivered through the ventilator which helps to treat the atelectasis, deliver aerosolized medications or even clear secretions. This is also known as lung expansion therapy which is used to treat or prevent pulmonary atelectasis or problems associated to this. IPPP is used mainly for utilizing the positive airway pressure from 15 to 25 minutes which will enhance the lung ventilation by increasing the tidal volume in the patients. The therapy has its own advantages and disadvantages. This treatment is used where Incentive Spirometry (IS) therapy cannot be used.
