Keratoconus

It is a kind of progressive eye disease where the normal cornea begins bulging and takes the shape of a cone. As that part of the eye is responsible for the light’s entrance into the eye, or in particular the conical shape deflects the light towards the retina, thus disorting the vision. It begins with young age and develops slowly. There are rare cases where there is a marked rapid growth. The outcomes are near sightedness and irregular astigmatism. A cause may be the weakening of the corneal tissue due to an imbalance of enzymes within the cornea. This imbalance makes the cornea more susceptible to oxidative damage from free radicals, causing it to weaken and bulge forward.
