Lentigo Simplex
Lentigo simplex refers to the most common benign skin condition that develops almost anywhere on the skin or on mucous membranes. Such a condition is characterized by small, flat pigmented spots, which could be black or light brown in color. Lesions could be smooth, irregular or well-defined borders, non-accompanying any other symptoms among early childhood, which grow with new lesions up to adulthood. The diagnosis of lentigo simplex is based on the appearance of the affected area, through skin biopsy and other testing methods. Other conditions with similar signs are actinic keratosis, ephelides (or freckles), seborrheic keratosis, melanoma, and lentigo maligna melanoma. Though lentigo simplex does not require any treatment, chemical peels, surgical excision, laser therapies or cryotherapy are performed.
