Lepra Lepromatosa
Lepra Lepromatosa is referred to as a chronic infectious disease, progressive in nature and is caused by the Mycobacterium leprae bacterium. It basically affects the nerves (nerve damage) located just at the boundary walls of the central nervous system (also called peripheral nerves), mucous membranes, skin and eyes. In case of severe leprosy, the condition may lead to loss of sensation, blindness and/or disfigurement. Leprosy are of several kinds – Tuberculoid (Minor Tubercuoid, Major Tuberculoid and Benign Hansen’s disease); Lepromatous (Malignant Hansen’s Disease); Indeterminate Leprosy; and Dimorphous (Borderline Leprosy). In the States, lepra lepromatosa is very uncommon, but in third world countries.
