Lichenification

 

It refers to a type of thickening of the epidermis seen with exaggeration of normal skin lines, which is usually due to chronic rubbing or scratching of an area. The result is a thick leathery skin. The condition is a common consequence of atopic dermatitis (eczema) and some other itchy disorders. It may be seen arising on seemingly normal skin. The marks resemble to the bark of a tree. Constant scratching and rubbing is a major cause of the condition. Treating with ointments is a good option for this.
