Lipoatrophy
Term used to describe the localized loss of fat tissues. It may be a breakdown of subcutaneous fat, at the site of an insulin injection or by subcutaneous injections of copaxone used for the treatment of multiple sclerosis. Usually occurs after several injections at the same site. It may occur in HIV-associated lip dystrophy, may be due to a drug reaction. The exact mechanism that causes this condition is unknown. Some theories say that it may be due to local immune reaction, mechanical injury over time or a delayed inflammatory response. It is permanent and recovery is rare
