Lipomatosis

It is a condition where multiple lipomas are present in the body. It is a hereditary disease. In this case there are painless symmetrical diffuse deposits of fat beneath the skin of the neck, upper trunk, arms and legs. It is frequently seen to appear in association with alcoholic liver disease and macrotyc anemia.This condition is more prominent in Mediterranean area and most common in men. It has been suggested that the distribution of fat in this condition resembles that of a pre-Roman Italic statue called the Capistrano warrior discovered in the Abruzzi region of Italy. The condition is benign and some patients seek removal of the tumor.
