Liver
Liver is one of the vital organs, found in vertebrates and some other animals. It is the largest gland and largest solid organ weighing 1.8/1.3 kgs. The position of this gland can be described as below the diaphragm in the abdominal-pelvic region of the abdomen. Its functions cover a wide range (approx 500) from protein synthesis, glycogen storage and detoxification to production of bio-chemicals necessary for digestion. It is considered to be the most essential organ for survival, as there is no way to compensate a liver functioning long term. This organ holds about 13% of the total blood supply at any given moment.
