Marasmus
It is one of the severe forms of protein-calorie or protein-energy malnutrition (PEM). Mostly affecting young children, it makes the child extremely thin causing the loss of all body muscles and fat. Other symptoms as seen in many cases include growth retardation, impaired immunity and lethargy. The main cause behind this disease is protein and carbohydrate deficiency. In this disease food is absorbed inadequately. There are many disorders like infections, dehydration and problem in circulation, which are associated with this disease. Treatment of the disease also includes treatment of the disorders, which includes a two phase process initial stabilization and rehabilitation.
