Necrotizing Sialometaplasia

Necrotizing Sialometaplasia affects the salivary glands. Mostly it occurs in the palate and also salivary glands. It occurs rarely in sinonasl region and lower lip. This is caused due to the less blood supply to the salivary glands. The diagnosis is difficult and can be don’t only through a biopsy section as well as clinical history. This may also be done through immunohistochemistry. This is often considered to be painless and will get resolved in six weeks’ time. Treatment is not necessary in most of the cases. Surgery is done only for diagnosing the disease. Periodical evaluation is necessary to monitor the condition.
