Osteochondroma

Osteochondroma is a benign cartilaginous tumor that consists of a pedicle of normal bone with a rim of proliferative cartilage cells. It often occurs near the long bone ends or joints and is most common type of benign bone tumors. The shape is a cartilage-caped bony outgrowth on the surface of the bone. The case is frequent in child and teenagers, and the growth of the tumor ceases on maturity. Main parts suffering from the defect are knee and shoulder. Simple X-ray can detect the growth on the bone. Treatment includes both surgical and nonsurgical methods.
