Osteopetrosis

Also known as marble bone disease or Albers-Schonberg disease, it is a bone disease that makes bones abnormally dense and prone to fracture. The condition is an outcome of the failure of osteoclasts to resorb bone. Other effects of this disorder include increased bone mass, disturbed tooth eruption and hematopoietic insufficiency. There are mainly three distinctions made in its class viz. autosomal dominant, autosomal recessive and X-linked. Autosomal recessive osteopetrosis is a more severe form of the disease. A differential diagnosis can be performed to check other disorders responsible for this. The widely recognized treatment of this disease is bone marrow transplantation.
