Cardiac conduction
The cardiac conduction system is the group cardiac muscles present in the walls of the heart which send signals to the muscles of the heart causing it to contract. The cardiac conduction system comprises of AV node, SA node, bundle branches, bundle of His and Purkinje fibers. The atrial muscles contract when the SA node begins the sequence. The signals travel to the AV from there through the bundle of His to the bundle branches and then through the Purkinje fibers thus causing the ventricles to contract. These signals create and electrical current that can be observed on a device known as Electrocardiogram (ECG). Doctors makes use of ECG to monitor the cardiac conduction of the heart.
