Dercums Disease

Dercums Disease or Adiposis Dolorosa is a rare condition where the fatty deposits apply pressure to the nerves and result in pain and weakness. Different areas of the body may show swelling for no reason. Although the swelling may disappear without treatment, it may leave behind hardened tissue or skin folds. The disease possesses wide range of symptoms. This disorder mostly occurs among women between the ages 25 and 60, however it can occur to males too.

The most common symptoms are:

• Multiple fatty masses which are painful
• Weakness and fatigue
• Obesity, usually in the menopause period
• Mental instability such as depression, confusion, dementia and epilepsy
