Erysipelas
Erysipelas refers to a particular kind of skin infection caused due to group A Streptococcus bacteria, which can affect both adults and children. Prime risk factors considered are a cut in the skin, skin sores or ulcers, and drainage problems through the lymph system or the veins. Previously, the face used to be the most prone area to erysipelas, which has now been reduced to only 20% of cases, while legs constitute 80% of cases. Common symptoms include blisters, shaking, chills, fever, skin lesion with a raised border, sores on the cheeks and nose, and extremely red, swollen and warm skin beneath the lesion.
