Gynecomastia

Gynecomastia is referred to as a benign or non-cancerous enlargement of the male breast as a result of a proliferation of the grandular element of the breast. Medically, it signifies the existence of a firm or rubbery mass that extends concentrically from the nipples. Such a condition is called pseudogynecomastic or lipomastia, which symbolizes fat deposits in the absence of glandular proliferation. While gynecomastia is normally bilateral, it can also be unilateral. The causes are uncertain, but the prime reason could be attributed to a sex hormone imbalance or the tissue responsiveness to them. Gynecomastia might also result from an imbalance of estrogenic and androgenic effects over the breast.
