Hemopericardium

 

Hemopericardium is a condition where infiltration of the blood into the pericardium takes place. It is different from hemorrhagic effusion which occurs during cancerous, tubercular and cachectic pericarditis and usually results in the rupture of an aneurism of coronary arteries or aorta. This condition may also arise due to injuries from fracture of ribs, bullet wounds, sternum etc. The symptoms vary depending upon the cause. Hemopericardium is the result of the rupture of the aneurism of the aorta or the myocardium. The patient suddenly experiences excruciating pain, dusky hue on the face or a deathly pallor or even death.
