Islands of Langerhans
Islands of Langerhans are also known as islets of Langerhans, which is irregular in shape, patch of endocrine tissue which is located within the pancreas of vertebrates. This was originally named after a German physician Paul Langerhans. A normal pancreas will have about 1,000,000 islets. The islets are of four types, alpha, beta that makes insulin, delta and C cells. Diabetes develops when insulin is not used properly. This can be treated by doing islet transplantation. Islets are taken from a deceased donor by purifying and processing it before transmission. After transplantation the cells will be able to release and makeinsulin.
