Omphalocele

It is a kind of abdominal wall defect where the infant’s intestine or other abdominal organs stick out of the belly button (navel). The organs remain in a sac because of the development defect in the abdominal wall. The defect develops as a baby grows inside the mother’s womb, and about 30% of infants who bear this defect, also have other birth defects. The condition can be easily observed as the abdominal contents protrude out of the navel. By performing a prenatal ultrasound, one can easily check for an omphalocele. Surgery is the only option to remove the defect from the infants body.
