Plummer-Vinson Syndrome

 

Plummer-Vinson syndrome happens to those who are suffering from chronic deficiency of iron and hence results in acute anemia. In this condition thin & small tissues grow in the upper part of the esophagus or the food pipe that prohibits the process of swallowing food. Any specific reason for this syndrome is not known but it is seen that women are more affected than men. Along with the difficulty in swallowing infected person also experiences weakness. Some affected can have abnormalities in nails and skin. In any severe case it may turn to cancers of throat and the esophagus. Genetic factors and also lack of proper nutrition may result in this condition.
