Pneumonia

It is a breathing or respiratory condition in which, the patient finds an infection in the lungs. Generally it is caused due to infection, but there are non-infection conditions also. The main infection causing agents are bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites. The most common pneumonia-causing germ in adults is Streptococcus pneumoniae (pneumococcus). Symptoms include cough with sputum production and sharp chest pain on inspiration. It was considered as ‘the captain of the man of death’. The condition can be easily diagnosed by performing x-ray and examining the sputum. Vaccination can also prevent some type of pneumonia. Bacterial and fungal conditions can be treated with antibiotics.
