Red Blood Cells

Erythrocytes or the Red Blood Cells are common cells present in the blood of a vertebrate and are responsible for providing oxygen to the tissues of the body. The circulatory system carries the blood throughout the body and RBC takes oxygen from the lungs and squeezes through the capillaries to the tissue. The RBC is red in color due to the presence of the hemoglobin (iron content) in its cytoplasm which is responsible for carrying the oxygen. These cells are born in the bone marrow and are recycled after about 120 days. The RBC content of a human body is one third of its body volume.
